Another Helping

2nd Helping's journal about what we are doing to help those less fortunate in our community.

Deliveries To and Fro

We not only made a delivery today, but also received a delivery today. This morning's delivery was a collection of men's dress clothes which will help many adult men in the Charlotte area as they pursue a new job or work in their current one.

In the early afternoon, we received a donation that was driven to Charlotte from Raleigh, NC. Jim was working in the area, and Mariana sent him up with the additional task of dropping off to us. We appreciate you thinking of us as your donation recipient! Thank you Jim, Mariana, Isa, and Patrick for your gently used items! They will definitely go to good use.

Finally, we are starting to see a need to shift from winter to summer, especially with warmer days ahead (70s tomorrow?!). That means we will be sorting and possibly storing items until the fall if necessary, but will then be taking in all of those summer items you don't want or need any longer. Thank you to an anonymous local packaging plant for the donation of extra large sorting boxes to help serve our needs.

As you clean out, please consider items that you just don't know what to do with any more. We accept any clothes at any time, fall or winter, and home items, especially towels, sheets, blankets, etc... These gently used home items can help individuals get started in a new home or apartment, but we will even accept well worn linens. We have plans to donate to Bit O' Luck Horse Rescue, Project Halo Animal Rescue, and Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas to mention a few.

We do accept furniture donations as well, so don't hesitate to ask!

Please consider contacting 2nd Helping for all of your donation needs. :)

Thanks so much! Happy Helping!

And finally, I was inspired by this quote from Bit O' Luck Equine Rescue:

“You can’t have a perfect day without doing something for someone who’ll never be able to repay you.”

Thanks and Current Need

Thanks to Kim and Roxy for their donations of furniture this weekend. We are currently looking for a good home or organization who could use the items.

We also received a small donation of towels and few blankets to be donated to the Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas for their rescue animals. We would like to continue to donate to this and other animal rescue organizations, so if you have linens that are not suitable for home use, but are still useful, please contact us for pickup.

Finally, we are in need of clothing for infants and males. Male clothing donations can be any size at all.

And as always, we will take any and all donations because there is always a need somewhere and we will seek until we find a 2nd home for your donated items.

Pick Ups for a Picking Up Business

This week was a positive week with 2 pick ups- one from Preston, a former student, and one from a couple, Doug and Jenni, I have worked with for a few years. It feels so good to pick up things and start to think about where those items can possibly go to help others.

This coming Sunday, January 29th, is also an open house for the Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas. Coming across this as a former donor to them, it occurred to me that linens we collect can certainly go to help men, women, and children in shelters, but well worn ones can go to animal shelters to help keep rescued animals warm during the cold months of the year. I posted this on our facebook page as well as my own personal facebook page hoping to get donations for this event. Interested in donating? Give us a call, text, email... we pick up!!!

1st Official Deliveries

photo1Elizabeth, Amelia, and I made our first official deliveries this morning. We visited the home of a working mother and left her a bag of clothing, and then went by Goodwill Industries for a delivery of women's clothing and home linens. We did pull some home linens yesterday to help insulate a neighborhood barn for the colder weather which reminded me of the numerous animal rescue organizations who need linens for their animals. There is need everywhere! It felt so great to be delivering and officially in business! I cannot wait to finalize some of my partners we are working on and get their names, logos, and needs online for others to see. Don't forget I am available for pickup! Just contact me!
